Stakeholder Advisory Committee tours Carolina North site

Members of the Carolina North Stakeholder Advisory Committee toured the University-owned property July 27, exploring areas potentially included in UNC-Chapel Hill’s largest campus expansion since its founding.

“You can sense opportunity, but it might be hard to see it,” said Anita Brown-Graham, one of the committee’s three co-chairs, director of the ncIMPACT Initiative and associate dean for strategic initiatives at the UNC School of Government.

The committee is composed of 31 members — from students and alumni to faculty and local community members — and is tasked with advising the University on the Carolina North expansion, which will position Carolina to serve the state with greater scale, clarity and impact.

The group provides feedback on that vision, how the University aligns access, innovation and community integration in ways that reflect both its public mission and the realities of a rapidly growing region.

Located on and around the former site of the Horace Williams Airport, Carolina North will be home to collaborative academic and research facilities, mixed-use housing, retail, dining, and civic and cultural spaces.
