Serving our community

Over the past two decades, Carolina For The Kids has raised nearly $6 million for the UNC Children’s Hospital through its annual Dance Marathon.

Money raised through the event helps fund three program areas: The For The Kids Fund, which provides funding for things that insurance doesn’t normally cover, such as utility bills and gas cards; Parent’s Night Out, which provides a free, weekly hot meal for families to enjoy together; and grant money, which is given to the hospital for equipment and also to researchers who are working to improve the quality and success of care for the children.

Taking the stage

Carolina is home to nearly a dozen a cappella groups with styles ranging from R&B and pop hits to religious and Asian fusion. Groups have become a staple of Carolina traditions with performances at Convocation, Sunset Serenade and Commencement.

The University’s first a capella group, the Clef Hangers, formed more than four decades ago and led the way for groups like the Harmonyx, which formed in 1995 as the University’s first black a cappella group.
