Head over heels for Carolina

Dear Carolina

There's a lot to love about the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

From picturesque campus strolls and meaningful memories on Polk Place to impactful research and life-changing education, Carolina has captured the hearts of hundreds of thousands of Tar Heels.

In honor of Valentine's Day, we invited current students to share why they love Carolina.

  • Sakari Singleton

In an original poem about her experiences in Chapel Hill, Sakari Singleton says that the University has always loved her for her. Carolina, she says, helped her become stronger, better and wiser by opening doors to new friendships and relationships.

  • Drew Campbell on Franklin Street.

Sophomore Drew Campbell's first memory of Carolina is the smell of buttered popcorn, loud cheers and a 107-64 men's basketball win over Cleveland State University. But that was just the start of his passion for the University.

  • Taylor Coffey

Sophomore Taylor Coffey wanted to make a list of all of the things she loves about Carolina, from campus pride to discoveries she is making in the classroom. For Valentine’s Day, she narrowed her list to 14 reasons.

What binds us to this place?

  • A man holds a buffer fish on a boat.

    The Tar Heel State

As Charles Kuralt said, our love for Carolina comes from the fact that the University is as it was meant to be: The University of the people, serving the state of North Carolina.

  • Blooming flowers by the Pit

    Campus beauty

One of the first things that steals Tar Heels' hearts is Carolina's campus. With flowering trees, brick walkways, the bell and the well, its easy to fall in love with this place.

  • Student cheering section

    Bleeding Carolina blue

Tar Heels bleed Carolina Blue. There's not a time of year where students aren't cheering on student-athletes at the highest levels of competition. With 44 NCAA team titles, there's a lot to love about Carolina athletics.

Carolina is a special place for so many reasons, but one of those reasons stands out the most: our students.
