Get moving with Campus Rec

Staying active

From pools and climbing walls to fitness centers and expeditions, UNC Campus Recreation is ready to help members of the Carolina community hit their fitness goals this semester.

Many Campus Rec facilities reopened on Jan. 19 with modified spaces and procedures to ensure that Tar Heels can safely engage in social and physical activities, including personal fitness, outdoor education and intramural sports.

  • 20+Intramural sports this semester, including disc golf, cornhole, esports and virtual trivia and paint nights
  • 5Hiking trails within walking distance of campus, 18-hole disc golf course, and tennis and volleyball courts.
  • 25+Weekly virtual fitness classes and HeelFit workouts
  • 5+Scheduled expeditions to explore North Carolina

Working out safely

As facilities reopen this semester, students, faculty and staff must reserve two-hour time slots for their indoor workouts. You can sign up for a spot up to 48 hours in advance.

You will be required to wear a mask while at any of the facilities. Tar Heels are also expected to maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others — including friends and roommates. The Campus Rec team has modified its spaces to allow for appropriate physical distancing.

Available Campus Rec options open now include cardio and strength training equipment at Rams Head the Student Recreation Center, lap swimming at the Bowman Gray Memorial pool, walking trails and the disc golf course at the Outdoor Education Center, Hooker Fields, and the outdoor courts on the north campus and the South Campus Recreation Complex. The Challenge Course and climbing walls are also open with reservations.

Equipment such as locks, towels, mats and bands are not available. You’ll need to bring your equipment if you need it. Water fountains are also turned off, so don’t forget to bring a water bottle.
