As part of Rachel Geyer’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, she tried understanding why some corals grow more complex skeletons, possibly making the coral more resilient. She hopes her findings may help tropical coral species threatened by rapidly warming waters and excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Launch Chapel Hill’s award-winning startup accelerator’s summer session is specifically geared to help Carolina student entrepreneurs. This year, for the first time, the summer cohort also took a little trip: a short walk down Franklin and Rosemary streets to meet Tar Heel and Launch alumni who opened their ventures downtown.

Students explore the Beat Lab all year as a community space where musicians can use a wide variety of DJ gear, electronic music tools and digital resources to practice, create and collaborate in making music. In late May, the lab partnered with UNC Summer School to host the Carolina Hip Hop Institute. The course allows students to engage in discussions about the creation of music and even participate in jam sessions with fellow students and teachers.
