A long legacy of research

The Office of Research Communications has created an interactive timeline, from the founding of UNC-Chapel Hill in 1793 to Aziz Sancar’s 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

From building the first university astronomical observatory in the United States, to becoming the world’s leading scholar on Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to developing antiretrovirals that prevent HIV transmission by 96 percent — researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill have achieved amazing feats.

To celebrate this history, the Office of Research Communications created an interactive timeline, from the founding of UNC-Chapel Hill in 1793 to Aziz Sancar’s 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry win.
