With the high price of running for elected office and the costs of living in a capital city, being a politician isn’t cheap.

For blue-collar workers who may be living off hourly wages, those high costs, combined with income lost while in legislative session, may keep them from running for political office at all.

Could paying politicians higher salaries encourage more blue-collar workers to run for office and create a more economically diverse legislature that more accurately represents the population?

In this week’s episode, doctoral candidate in political science Eric Hansen weighs in on that question.
