#GDTBATH: Thoai Vu

The Carolina junior is using his musical abilities to promote healing and help improve the quality of life at local retirement communities and hospitals.

Thoai Vu began playing the violin when he was 4.

Now a junior at Carolina studying biology, he is the founder and president of Heeling in Harmony, a music performance-based student organization that seeks to promote healing and help improve the quality of life through music. Members of the group visit local retirement communities and hospitals to perform music and interact with residents.

Vu started Heeling in Harmony after seeing the impact music had on his grandmother.

“She has late onset dementia. She’s normally really fidgety and doesn’t really pay attention,” Vu said. “The moment I started playing, her attention just became laser-focused right on me.”
