In the shadow of the spot on North Carolina’s Outer Banks where the Wright Brothers launched the world’s first flight, Izzie Estes is preparing for a first of her own.
“Being the first in my family to try going to college, or to go to Carolina feels like trailblazing, almost,” Estes said. “It’s like a leap in a completely different direction from most of the rest of my family. It’s been challenging to find my own path in that respect.”
Growing up in Kill Devil Hills, surrounded by the coastal beauty of the Outer Banks, helped inspire Estes’ planned major: environmental science.
“Being surrounded by opportunity excites me the most about Carolina, and being surrounded by people who are just as eager to embrace the opportunities that are being provided to them,” Estes said. “I’m incredibly excited to be a part of that sort of a community.”
