Building a Carolina legacy
Watch the video to meet Ronald E. McNair scholar and graduating senior Jada Harkins Andrews.
Graduating senior Jada Harkins Andrews is grateful for all of the knowledge about journalism and political science she gained at Carolina. But as she looks back on her four years in Chapel Hill, the lessons she learned outside of the classroom stand out the most.
“When I came to Carolina, I was number two in my class, and I had a lot to learn about learning that it’s OK to fail sometimes,” said Harkins Andrews, a double major in political science and media and journalism. “I think it’s just really important to learn that failing is a part of life and what you have to do is get up and keep moving.”
When she first came to UNC-Chapel Hill as a teenager from Whiteville, North Carolina, Harkins Andrews could tell there was something special about the campus. As she prepares to finish her days as a student on campus, that feeling will be what she expects to miss the most.
“There’s this thing about Carolina — it’s just a feeling of home, and I can’t really describe it, but when you come here, you feel it,” Harkins Andrews said. “I think I’m really going to miss that. I will always have this Carolina legacy behind my name.”
