For more than 400 Tar Heels, there was no sleeping or sitting Saturday. There was only dancing.

March 26 marked the in-person return of Dance Marathon. Since launching in 1999, the fundraising event has raised more than $7 million for patients and families served by the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. This year, the students raised $288,306.07.

The annual event is hosted by Carolina for the Kids. The group is a student-run volunteer organization that provides emotional and financial support for the patients and families served by the hospital through year-long fundraising campaigns and events. They focus on assisting families with expenses not covered by insurance, such as utility bills, fuel gas for traveling to doctor’s appointments and meal vouchers.
