A day of giving back

Tar Heels can join the #TarHeelTuesday giving movement by making a gift online to any school, program or scholarship.

There is a national day for giving thanks and at least two for getting deals.

Now, there is a global day dedicated to giving back: #GivingTuesday.

On Dec. 1, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will participate by encouraging personal philanthropy — including to any of the 7,000-plus funds at Carolina — with #TarHeelTuesday. Starting at midnight and continuing until 11:59 p.m. EST, Tar Heels can join the giving movement by making a gift online to any school, program or scholarship.

“Every gift to UNC on #TarHeelTuesday helps support scholarships, research and the retention of top faculty,” said Jamie Tiano, senior and president of the Heelraisers Student Giving Council. “#TarHeelTuesday is all about celebrating generosity and provides an opportunity for Tar Heels to give to any area they care about at UNC.”

To celebrate #TarHeelTuesday, members of the Heelraisers Student Giving Council will be in the Pit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise awareness about private philanthropy at Carolina. They will hand out cookies, hot chocolate and prizes, while also allowing students to join the movement by making their own gift to UNC.
