Women at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have achieved some amazing feats in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

From the first woman admitted to the School of Medicine, to the researcher who highlighted the health problem of secondhand smoke, to the computer scientist who built networks for the 1998 Nagano Olympics — women at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have achieved some amazing feats in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

To highlight their accomplishments, this UNC Research timeline spans the past 116 years and features women who have not only made major research discoveries and advancements, but have narrowed the gender gap for women in STEM.
