225 Years.Editor’s note: In honor of the University’s 225th anniversary, we will be sharing profiles throughout the academic year of some of the many Tar Heels who have left their heelprint on the campus, their communities, the state, the nation and the world.

Vanessa Wittman has some impressive names on her resume: Dropbox, Microsoft, Google and Verizon, to name a few. As a woman in business with a host of CFO and senior vice president titles to her name, Wittman is no stranger to breaking barriers, and she credits much of her success to UNCKenan-Flagler Business School.

“To me, the successes I have had can all be credited back to the education I received at Carolina,” she said. “I want to make sure that I don’t forget that the tools I learned here are the tools I’m still using.”

A 1989 graduate of UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Undergraduate Business Program, Wittman now serves on the board of Ulta Beauty, a beauty retailer with stores in 50 states.

Despite her busy schedule, Wittman still finds time to connect with the place where it all started. In November 2018, she spoke at the 13th annual Carolina Women in Business Conference, lending her expertise to students who hope to one day follow in her footsteps.

“I’d love to see our students continuing to land in really terrific positions and then stay involved to keep those ties and to keep the spotlight on Kenan-Flagler.”
