Sara Daavettila wins ITA Fall Championship Singles Title
The win wrapped up an impressive showing that saw her notch six victories in the event with five coming against top-50 ranked players.
North Carolina senior Sara Daavettila closed out her final fall tournament in style by winning the Oracle ITA Fall National Championship singles title on Sunday at Newport Beach Tennis Club.
Daavettila, the No. 8 seed from Williamston, Michigan, defeated No. 6 seed Anna Turati from Texas, 7-6 (5), 6-1. The win wrapped up an impressive showing that saw her notch six victories in the event with five coming against top-50 ranked players.
Daavettila knocked off 2019 NCAA Singles Champion Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami in the semifinals and eighth-ranked Anna Rogers of NC State in the second round.
Sunday’s win for the Tar Heel senior afforded her a bit of revenge after losing to Turati last month in the quarterfinals of the ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Oklahoma That result went in favor of the Longhorn senior, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8).
Daavettila was honored on Saturday with the ITA Sportsmanship Award for outstanding demeanor on and off the court.
