Dear Carolina Community,

We wanted to be sure you saw the important news that an arrest has been made in the murder of Faith Danielle Hedgepeth, a Carolina student who was murdered in 2012. Faith was an active member of the Carolina Indian Circle, Unheard Voices and served as an American Indian Center volunteer.

Her tragic death shook our community to its core, and we continue to feel the impact of her incredible spirit today. Today, our hearts and prayers are with Faith’s family and loved ones as we continue honoring her life and memory. We also want to thank our campus and community partners, including the Chapel Hill Police Department, UNC Police, state law enforcement and investigators for their perseverance in this case.

If you need assistance during this time, please reach out to any of these departments that stand ready to help. Students, including graduate and professional students and post-doctoral students, may contact the Dean of Students teamCounseling and Psychological Services or Student Wellness. Faculty and staff should reach out to the Employee Assistance Program.

Faith was and continues to be a Tar Heel, and we will never forget her and what she has meant to our community.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Guskiewicz
