Dear Carolina Community,

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. Whether you’re staying close to campus or, like me, traveling many hours and miles to be with family and friends, I hope it’s a restful break.

Earlier this week, I had dinner with a friend I’ve known since college. We marveled at how time flies and that our children are now college-age, making friends they’ll count on for decades to come. The older I get, the more gratitude I feel for those relationships, for the people in my life who listen well, ask thoughtful questions and provide unconditional support. Thanksgiving is a season for those reflections, a time when we count our own blessings and think about how we can grace the lives of others. Gathering, listening, being in real conversation with one another — I don’t think I’m alone in feeling renewed. Thanks for all of those things this year, and for all of you.

Safe travels, and I’ll see you back in Chapel Hill.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Guskiewicz
Chancellor
