The North Carolina men’s basketball team fell short in its quest for another national championship. The Tar Heels lost 72-69 to Kansas in the national championship game in New Orleans.

Carolina was the No. 8 seed in the East Regional. The Tar Heels defeated Marquette, Baylor, UCLA and Saint Peter’s to make it to the Final Four. On Saturday, the Tar Heels beat Duke in the national semifinal in New Orleans in the first NCAA Tournament match-up ever between the rivals.

Coach Hubert Davis, who was an assistant coach from 2012-21, was the fifth individual to lead his team to the national championship game in his first season as a college head coach.
