Watch New Student Convocation livestream

The ceremony will be held at the Dean E. Smith Center on Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. The entire Carolina community can watch the livestream on UNC.edu and the University’s YouTube page.

Traditionally held the Sunday before classes begin for Carolina’s fall semester, New Student Convocation is the official academic start for Tar Heels. The annual event brings together members of the newest class of students for the first time to welcome them to the Carolina community.

This year’s New Student Convocation was held in person at the Dean E. Smith Center on Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. The entire Carolina community — including family and friends of the students — can watch the celebration livestream on UNC.edu and the University’s YouTube page.

Speakers include Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Chris Clemens, Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer Leah Cox, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Amy Johnson and Student Body President Taliajah Vann.

The keynote speaker is Katie Hoeg, a 2022 Carolina graduate and lacrosse player who received the Patterson Award, awarded to student-athletes for career accomplishments. Hoeg led the Tar Heels to four ACC championships and three national semifinals, becoming Carolina’s leading score and the fourth in ACC history.
