A message from the chancellor: Building our network

"One of the most important things we can do is build and strengthen that community of talented Tar Heels so that they can find one another and do great work together."

A bell tower surrounded by green trees.

Dear Carolina Community,

Every day, over 350,000 alumni of this University are making a difference and improving lives across our state and around the world. They are deeply connected to this place and eager to do their part for the next generation of students and graduates.

One of the most important things we can do is build and strengthen that community of talented Tar Heels so that they can find one another and do great work together. This semester, we launched the HEELSENGAGE Network to make it easier for students, faculty, staff and alumni to connect and collaborate.

In our fast-changing world, a thriving life and career are built on strong relationships. Learning to apply your energy and talent in creative ways, in partnership with others, is crucial. I witness how our alumni can strengthen the work of teaching and research on our campus, partnering with faculty to bring well-earned insight and experience back to the University. At every stage of their careers and lives, our alumni are charting new paths and doing meaningful work in the world.

HEELSENGAGE is not just a platform. If we use it well, I believe it will strengthen the relationships that define our community, bringing together Tar Heels who have a common sense of purpose and a desire to make our world better. We ask that you share this network with your friends and colleagues, and give us feedback on how to make it better.

Some of my favorite Carolina stories are about the lifelong connections forged around shared work and common interests. Relationships give our lives meaning, and we should embrace every tool we have for creating more of them.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Guskiewicz
Chancellor
