Carolina is celebrating its research endeavors during the annual University Research Week from Oct. 19 to 23. The celebration of research excellence displays the scope of work conducted by Tar Heels and aims to increase students’ participation in all levels of research activity. This year’s virtual events include a symposium on Carolina’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and special events highlighting innovative research that is making an impact in North Carolina at beyond.

Researchers at Carolina are working quickly to find practical and innovative solutions to the new challenges created by COVID-19. They're developing tracking tools, launching community testing sites and conducting vaccine trials. They’re also studying the various non-medical hurdles caused by COVID-19 to help our state respond to the pandemic holistically and help all North Carolinians thrive.
At the onset of the pandemic, Carolina's Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases sprang into action, advising and partnering with the NIH's national response. The institute is engaged in 52 research projects, including vaccine trials.
