Doctor of Pharmacy students from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy maintained the school’s No. 1 national postgraduate Year 1 residency match rate in 2024. The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists ranking is for U.S. schools of pharmacy with 75 or more students registering to match.

Eshelman was also No. 1 among North Carolina pharmacy programs.

The match happens annually to help Doctor of Pharmacy students secure positions in residency programs of their choice and to help the programs get the applicants of their choice.

“From welcoming these students in their first year to celebrating their achievements on match day, walking alongside them through their journey is a true privilege, and I can’t wait to see how they lead and innovate within the pharmacy profession,” said Angela Kashuba, pharmacy dean.

Following the first round of the match process, nearly 83% of the graduating Class of 2024 students who submitted applications matched with a residency program, according to statistics from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

In addition, in terms of overall match rate, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy was 18 percentage points higher than the national first round match average of 147 pharmacy schools. Twenty-five Doctor of Pharmacy students were matched with residency programs in North Carolina, with others who matched going to programs in 21 other states.
