Welcome home, Tar Heels
Welcome back to Carolina, Tar Heels! We're excited you are back for another school year.
Whether you are studying remotely or in Chapel Hill, this time of year brings us all together as one Carolina Community, and we are looking forward to a great year.
The start of a new year
University celebrations began the night before FDOC as Tar Heels kicked off the year with storied Carolina traditions that took on new looks this semester.
The University officially welcomed first-year and transfer students to Carolina Sunday night during New Student Convocation. The ceremony marks the beginning of the Carolina journey for more than 5,300 students.
After Convocation, several of Carolina’s a capella groups continued their annual Sunset Serenade tradition, but this time the show went online, and the UNC General Alumni Association streamed the group’s performances.
Some of you are on campus in residence halls while others are participating in our new Carolina Away program. I want you to know that no matter where you are, you are a Tar Heel and a valued member of this community. We want you to be engaged with our campus.

Carolina Together
We are starting a semester that will be unlike any other in Carolina's history.
With Community Standards in place to help keep all of our Tar Heels safe and healthy, the campus will have a different look and feel this fall.
What won't be changing, however, is Carolina's commitment to providing our students with a world-class education and preparing the next generation of leaders to address and solve the world's most pressing issues.
The changes may feel uncomfortable at first, but by working together, we can all enjoy a successful semester.

As students return for the fall semester, limited hours and study spaces will be offered at Davis Library and the Health Sciences Library.

Eating on campus
While a Lenoir and Chase dining halls will be open only for students with meal plans, all Tar Heels will be able to grab a bite to eat on campus from various locations and food trucks around spread throughout campus.
